My name is Elizabeth “Neko” Richardson. I am a licensed counselor in the State of Texas, have a degree in Environmental Science, and am also a veteran.
I am currently in Huntsville, Texas, building my own home and studio, while under the mentorship of Dan Phillips.
My current project is to build my home and studio out of salvaged materials on a buget of $16,000.
My area of interest is in changing the American dream by changing the way we think about both housing and waste in America.
My intention is to build small homes that are human scale, artisically designed, full of warmth and human gesture, out of reclaimed materials.
These homes will have very low or no mortgage, have small energy use, and keep construction waste, which is 36% of all waste, out of landfills. They will also allow the owners to live thier lives as they choose instead of to pay for a mortgage, or rent.
Please follow me in my living experiment on this blog and at “Natural Home and Garden Magazine’s” blog.

Inspiring. What a way to live.
I just moved to Dallas from western NY. Everything here is 95% different from what I’m used to, but I want to build a salvaged home more than anything in the world. I have no idea where to start. I’m completely jealous =)
